11 Measured value transmission via SMS

11.1 General information

Sending an SMS is only possible with signal conditioning instruments

with serial interface in conjunction with modems supported by VEGA.

A GSM modem and a conventional telephone network modem are

available for the analogue telephone connection. To send an SMS,

the signal conditioning instrument dials into an SMS Service Center

(SMSC): Via this SMS Service Center the SMS is the transferred to

the subscriber (e.g. mobile phone).
Note:

To set up the SMS function, PACTware with the corresponding DTMs

is required.

11.2 Settings for SMS transmission

Open the suitable DTM in PACTware and select the menu item

"Device settings - SMS" for configuration of the SMS function. As

basic setting, the connected modem and the requested SMS provider

(SMSC) are selected.

If the SMS should be transmitted via the conventional telecommuni-

cation network, you will need an analogue telephone connection with

direct outward dialing and the Phoenix Contact PSI data/fax modem

(order no.: MODEM.JX)
If transmission is made via GSM, the Siemens TC35i GSM cellular

phone modem must be used (order no.: MODEM.FX). For this you

will need a GSM contract. Make sure that there is sufficient network

coverage by the provider. Furthermore the PIN of the used SIM card

must be deactivated.

From the provided list you can select the suitable provider (SMSC). If

the requested provider is not listed, you can select "User-defined" and

enter the respective phone number (only Siemens TC35i) in the field

"SMSC phone number". With Poenix Contact PSI Data/Fax Modem

you can only use the providers available in the list.

In this field, the phone number of the provider selected previously

from the list appears. After having selected "User-defined" you can

enter the phone number of the requested provider.

Further SMS settings are carried out under the menu item "Event list".

These are:

"Phone number:" Phone number of the SMS addressee

"Event type:" Time, measured value or status-controlled

"Contents of messages:" Measured value or status

"Actuator for transmission:" Time, interval, exceeding/underrun-

ning the measured value
