Protrusion of rope parts

Rope with rise up of core, strand or group of wires shall be changed immediately.

Loose outer strands

The outer strands of the ropes shall be tight, when the rope is not loaded. In standard and heavy duty
ropes the outer strands can have small, visible gap under load. If the gap does not close when the load is
released, the rope shall be changed.

Kink

Kink or tightened loop is created by a loop in the rope which has been tightened without allowing for
rotation about its axis. Rope with a kink shall be changed immediately.

Bends

Bends and angular deformations are normally caused by external influence. Broken wires shall be
carefully studied in the area of bends. Discard criteria for a bend is: e < 2 x d over a length of 10 x d. A
milder bend can often be removed by carefully bending the rope by hand in the opposite curve. Rope
with sharp bend shall be changed immediately.
