Enabling distinctive ring detection

If you subscribe to distinctive ring service with your telephone
company and live in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the United
States, use this procedure to enable the HP LaserJet 3150 product to
detect distinctive ring patterns. If you do not have distinctive ring
service, do not change this setting, or the HP LaserJet 3150 product
will not be able to receive faxes.

What is distinctive ring service?

Distinctive ring service is currently available from some local
telephone companies. It allows you to have two or three phone
numbers on one line. This costs less than paying for two or three
separate lines. Each of the phone numbers will have a different ring
pattern.

How do I get it?

If you would like to have distinctive ring service, call your local
telephone company to check availability and to subscribe. As of this
printing, the service is only available in some areas.

If distinctive ring is available and you choose to subscribe to it, keep
the following points in mind:

Make sure the telephone company assigns the correct ring
pattern for the fax number. For the United States and Canada, it’s
a double ring; for Australia, it’s a triple ring; and for New Zealand,
it’s a double ring with long pauses.

While distinctive ring service may allow you to have up to three
phone numbers on the same line, the HP LaserJet 3150 product
only supports two numbers. The HP LaserJet 3150 product
cannot detect the difference between the second and third ring
patterns and would answer calls coming to both the second and
third numbers.
