1 Overview of XP Remote Web Console Operations

1-1 XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array Web Server and Web Client

The XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array XP Remote Web Console consists of a group of Java™ applet programs that

enable the user to manage the XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array subsystem. The XP Remote Web Console Java™

applet programs run on a web browser to provide a user-friendly interface for the XP12000/XP10000 Disk

Array web client functions. The XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array service processor (SVP) is the computer inside the

subsystem that uses Java Virtual Machine™ (JVM™) to function as a web server. The SVP is also used by HP

representatives to perform maintenance. The XP Remote Web Console client functions as a web client. Each time

you log onto the XP Remote Web Console client and connect to the SVP, a Java™ applet program is

downloaded from the SVP to the client.
This document describes and provides instructions for using the licensed XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array XP

Remote Web Console software. The XP Remote Web Console software communicates directly with the

XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array subsystems via a local-area network (LAN) to obtain subsystem configuration and

status information, and send user-requested commands to the subsystem. The XP Remote Web Console software

displays the detailed subsystem information, and allows you to configure and perform operations on the

XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array subsystem.
The XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array subsystem can be connected to two LANs. The internal LAN is a private LAN

that is used to connect the SVPs of multiple subsystems. Your intranet is a public LAN that allows you to access

one or more SVPs from individual XP Remote Web Console client. This configuration allows you to easily access

and control the registered XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array subsystems. In a SAN environment, where several

subsystems may be connected together, you must designate a primary SVP, which can be either an SVP

connected to a XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array subsystem, or a web server with the exact same configuration as

an SVP (see section 2-4).
Figure 1-1 illustrates the relationship between the XP Remote Web Console client(s) and the SVP.
