Enter the printer’s IP name in the Print Server field.

Select BSD in the Print Server OS field.

Click Add.

Choose Modify Printer Set File from the Edit menu.

Set File Contents to PostScript.

Confirm that Accept Print Jobs and Enable Print Queue are set to Yes.

Click Apply.

Exit admintool and test the installation by printing a file.

Log in as

root

Assign an IP address and IP name to the printer, as described in “Step 3: Assigning an

IP Address to the Printer,” earlier in this chapter.

Make sure the printer’s IP name and address are entered in the

/etc/hosts

file.

If you’re using Network Information Service (NIS), see the NIS manual for
instructions on setting up an IP name and address.

Make sure the

lpd

daemon is running on the Sun-OS or Ultrix system by typing the

following command at the UNIX prompt:

ps aux | grep lpd

If the

lpd

daemon is running, you should see output similar to

root 135 0.0 0.0 52 0 ? IW Oct 17 0:01 /usr/lib/lpd

If the

lpd

daemon is not running, you will not see any output, and you

should start the daemon by logging in as

root

and typing this command at

the UNIX prompt:

/usr/lib/lpd

You can verify that the daemon is running by using the

ps

command

described in this step.
