Be sure to use an accurate and precise caliper when measuring, as these readings significantly
affect your results.

3. (If you are using an extensometer): When prompted, remove the extensometer.

The extensometer should be removed before plastic deformation begins. The removal point variable
value depends on the material you are testing. Typical values are 102% of original length for metals or
105% of original length for plastics.

4. Complete the test.

a) If you are prompted to “Retract actuator?”, click No. Retracting the actuator could damage the

specimen because of the plastic deformation.

b) Review the results.
