Adding Users to the Local Database
Beginning in Privileged EXEC mode, use the following commands to add
users to the local user database.
Command Purpose
configure Enter Global Configuration mode.
username name
password password [level
level] [encrypted]
Add a new user to the local users database.
• name — The name of the user. (Range: 1-20 characters)
• password — The authentication password for the user.
(Range: 8-64 characters. This value can be 0 [zero] if the
no passwords min-length command has been executed.)
• level — Supported levels are:
– 15: Read-Write access
– 1: Read-Only access
– 0: Suspend (this can be assigned by a level 15 user to
another user to suspend that user’s access.
• encrypted — Encrypted password entered, copied from
another switch configuration.
exit Exit to Privileged EXEC mode.
show users accounts View the users configured in the local database.
