6. Level Time will be in the Manual Mode requiring the operator to Sequence Stop the M-415

after measurements and any required adjustments are done. Pulse Mode should be OFF so

only the Primary AVC is checked. The Primary Amps should be set to 200 for the AVC
measurement. Insure that the Travel Mode switch is set to OFF. It is very important for
calibration measurements are done quickly, so not to melt the work piece. Since the AVC
measurement is taken from an exposed section of the torch like water power connectors(-) to
the work ground (+). Find a position that allows access without getting arc flash during voltage
measurements.

7. Recall from the LIBRARY the appropriate Calibration Weld Schedule.

8. Set the System Mode to WELD. Press Sequence Start.

9.

ATTACH THE DMM LEADS AFTER ARC INITIATION! The DMM should read 10.0 VDC

 0.1 VDC. If out of tolerance adjust trim pot R-40 of AVC/OSC Servo.

10. Press SEQ. STOP key to end Welding Sequence.

WARNING

DO NOT ADJUST ANY TRIM POTS INSIDE THE M-415 THAT ARE NOT OUTLINED IN THIS
SECTION!
Trim pots not out lined in this section are factory presets that DO NOT REQUIRE FIELD
CALIBRATION
. If you think someone has made adjustments to a factory preset trim pot call AMI
Service Department for immediate support.

WELD HEAD CALIBRATION INTRODUCTION

The following general weld head calibration procedure depends on a fully calibrated M-415 Power
Supply. Once a weld head’s Wire Feed and Travel Tachometers are calibrated to a M-415 it can be
moved from one M-415 to another M-415 without needing to be re-calibrated. However, if any motor
assembly components are repaired, replaced or calibrated to a different Model Power Supply (M-
227, M-215) they must be re-calibrated. If in doubt calibration should always be checked to insure
correct operation. To check the Travel or Wire Feed calibration of a Weld Head perform the
following steps:

WARNING

Before doing any calibrations on the Weld Head you must verify that the POWER SUPPLY

“SERVO CALIBRATION ADJUST“ SETTINGS ARE SET TO ZERO! On the M-415 Tool Bar

select “Tools” then unlock tools, select “Calibration”. The screen should display the “Servo

Calibration Adjust. Note any values for future reference. Reset any value to be calibrated to

zero (0). Save and proceed with the calibration.

1. Insure that the weld head is connected per section III. Travel calibration is done by moving the

torch and measuring actual speed, Wire Feed is done by running wire and measuring. Before
proceeding CHECK THAT THE WELD IS FREE TO OPERATE SAFELY.
