3.3.3 Reflectance Measurements

Reflectance measurements can be carried out routinely with the

color-view™

instruments. The instruments permit changing between

the installed large area lens and the optional small area lens.
Whenever the viewing geometry is changed, the instrument must be
recalibrated using the system software. Please refer to the Software
Help Menu for details which match the viewing configuration.

For reflectance measurements, the appropriate Aperture and Lens
must be in place in the proper position on the Sensor Unit and the
corresponding geometric set up must be entered via the software. In
the case of small or multicolored samples it may be necessary to
utilize the Small Area lens barrel and Aperture in the Sensor. The
Retroviewer allows positioning of a specimen so that it falls entirely
within the Sample Viewing area.

The calibration of the system and the corresponding quality of the
measurement data obtained during sample measurement is dependent
on: a) the Lens and Aperture installed correctly in the Sensor; and b)
the external or internal standard tiles used during the calibration.

The system must be turned on and the software loaded on to the host
computer. The instrument must be initialized and calibrated (see
Software Help Menu for details).

Operate instrument only in the upright position (see Fig.3-2). The
fiber optics and lamp filaments can move when changing positions
and affect the measurements
