Mantel Requirements

The mantel (combustible or non-combustible) must be a minimum 49-1/2” above the base of
the fireplace (see Figure 24).

The maximum mantel depth is 12” (measured from the face).

Combustible mantel columns (legs) that
protrude less than 4” (measured from the
fiber board) must be 2” from the glass frame.
If the mantel columns protrude more than 4”,
they must meet the sidewall clearance (12”
from the glass frame).

Non-combustible mantel columns do not
have a minimum clearance.
