23.6 Connectivity between local and remote site
The choice of which interface to use for Global Mirror management may depend on how the
2-site configuration is designed. A multi-host configuration allows you to configure and
manage the remote site using the host systems at the remote site. This alternative does not
require the use of inband commands. Alternatively, in a single site host configuration you can
access the remote site using the local host, when the distance does not exceed standard
FICON distance.
23.6.1 Multi-site host connectivity
Figure 23-7 on page 280 shows a configuration with hosts connected to their local disk
subsystems only. In this example there is no connection between the hosts of one site and the
storage disk subsystems of the other site. This example shows a typical 2-site disaster
recovery solution with the application host at the local site. The host at the remote site may be
a stand-by host, or a system that hosts non-critical applications and may be expanded
through CBU when a site switch from the local site to the remote site is required.
