Chapter 10 Managing Redirection and Remote Control Using the SP GUI 10-15
Console redirection starts the Java Remote Console remote keyboard, video, mouse,
storage (KVMS) application. Remote Console software is a piece of layered software
that enables a remote client to view the graphical console of the server as if it were
connected directly to the video, mouse, and keyboard of the server. Remote Console
software uses the Java Web Start application and contains operating system-specific
and architecture-specific code on the managing client, for example, your laptop
system.
10.7.1 Before You Begin
On the managing client, you must load the Java runtime environment, Version 5.0 or
newer. You can download the Java runtime environment from:
http://www.java.com
An Administrator must also set the mouse mode to either Absolute mode (for
Solaris or Microsoft Windows operating systems) or Relative mode (for Linux
operating systems) before you redirect the console. When the mouse mode is
changed, the service processor (SP) reboots. See
Section 10.3, “How to Change the
Mouse Mode” on page 10-4 .
The redirected console has been tested successfully on these browsers, and may be
compatible with other web browsers:
■ On x86 platforms, Internet Explorer 6.0 and Mozilla 1.7.5 browsers are supported
on Microsoft Windows, and the Mozilla 1.7.5 browser is supported on Solaris and
Linux.
■ On SPARC platforms, the Mozilla 1.7.5 browser is supported on Solaris.
Log in to the service processor (SP) as Administrator or Operator to reach the ILOM
web GUI.
10.7.2 What to Do
1. Start console redirection to reach the Remote Console screen.
Console redirection and keyboard redirection are enabled automatically. The Remote
Console screen provides the Redirection, Devices, and Keyboard menus. See also
Section 10.4, “How to Start and Stop Console Redirection” on page 10-6 .
2. From the Devices menu, choose Mouse to redirect the mouse.
Mouse redirection is enabled.
