Select the contents of the dummy data.

Define — You can enter numbers or characters in the
text box, and the data you enter will be used as the
dummy data. You can enter only hexadecimal numbers
in this text box. Therefore, you can use numbers from
0 to 9 and letters from A to F. You can enter up to 4
digits.

Random — Volume Shredder will select 4-digit

The dummy data will be written two digits each. Therefore,

you enter an odd number of digits (for example, 123), and
click Set, an error message appears.

If you try to enter more than four digits in the text box, the
entry will not be accepted.

shows the contents of the dummy data that will be used
each time.

NO. — The numbers in this column show how many
times the volume will be overwritten. The exception is
when you have selected User in the Write Data Type
field. For example, when you have selected User and
have defined 3 times overwriting, this column displays
the words Last Data instead of 3 in the third row.

Data — The contents of the dummy data is shown. The
dummy data is shown in groups of 2 digits separated
by a space. The contents of the dummy data that is
shown in the Last Data line is always 00.

Shredding Complete Confirmation Dialog Box

When a shredding operation is finished, the confirmation dialog box for completion of the shredding
operation will be displayed. In this dialog box, you can check how many times the overwriting
executed and what kind of dummy data was used in each overwriting. If you export a compression
file (in .tgz format) by using this dialog box and then use file decompression software to
decompress the compression file, you will obtain binary files containing the results of the shredding
operation and a text file containing the contents and results of the shredding operation.

The names of the binary files indicates the LDKC, CU, and LDEV numbers of the shredded volumes,
and the number of times dummy data has been written to the volumes. For example, if a binary
file is named 00–01-11-03.bin, the LDKC number is 00, the CU number is 01, and the LDEV
