Application workload requirements
If you will be protecting an application, the
general source and target server
apply. In addition, you must meet the application requirements below.
l
Server and network configuration—Application protection requires the following
server and network requirements.
l
The application program files must be installed in the same location on the
source and target.
l
The drive letter(s) where the applications stores its data on the source must
be the same on the target.
l
Single-label DNS domain names (those without a suffix such as .com, .corp,
.net) are not supported.
l
In environments where the FIPS security policy is enabled, you must use
impersonation, which requires the following.
l
The user running Storage Mirroring Recover must have all appropriate rights
to update the domain (that is, only impersonation is supported).
l
You must manually verify DNS rights by running the DFO utility with the /test
parameter.
l
Microsoft Server Core is only supported for

Verification—If you want to use the
feature to confirm the
integrity of your Exchange or SQL data on the target, you will need to install the
Volume Shadow Copy Service SDK in the \windows\system32 directory on the
target. You can download the SDK from the

Application Manager Console—The following requirements and limitations apply
to the Application Manager Console.
l
Ideally, you should run the console from a client machine or from the target.
l
Do not run the Application Manager Console from a domain controller.
l
If you are using a cluster configuration and run the Application Manager
Console from a workstation operating system, you must have the Windows
Administration Pack installed in order to have the cluster components
installed on the workstation operating system.
l
The Application Manager console requires Microsoft .NET version 2.0
Service Pack 1 or 3.5 Service Pack 1. These versions are not included in the
.NET version 4.0 release. Therefore, even if you have .NET version 4.0
installed, you will also need version 2.0.1 or 3.5.1. You can install the 3.5.1
version from the Storage Mirroring Recover CD, via a web connection during
