2 Function
When power is switched on, the solenoid is energised and
the pilot valve actuated. A small volume of pilot air switches
the solenoid valve. A socket is included for electrical connec-
tion.
3 Application
• The solenoid coil has been designed as an actuator for
Festo valves.
• The magnetic coils can be used in combination with the
planned magnetic valves and the included socket in zones
1 and 2 of potentially explosive gas atmospheres and in
zones 21 and 22 of potentially explosive dust atmosphe-
res.

• Electrical connections in potentially explosive dust atmosp-
heres must be made using the accompanying appliance
socket with mounting screw.
• In potentially explosive gas atmospheres, electrical con-
nection can also be made using solder and plug connec-
tions for push-in sleeves 6,3 in accordance with
DIN 46247-3.
4 Transport and storage
• Ensure storage conditions as follows: Short storage pe-
riods in cool, dry, shaded and corrosion-protected loca-
tions.
5 Conditions of use
• Comply with applicable national and international guideli-
nes.
• Note the maximum permitted values and operating condi-
tions.
• Take into account the ambient conditions at the site.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Fitting and commissioning to be carried out only by quali-
fied electrotechnicians in accordance with the operating
instructions.
• Use the product in its original condition without underta-
king any modifications. Tampering with the device by an-
ybody except the manufacturer will render the EU test cer-
tificate invalid.
• The device must be connected to a certified intrinsically
safe current circuit Ex ia IIC or Ex ib IIC.
• When switched with appropriate operating media, proof
must be carried out of the intrinsic safety.
• Perform installation, commissioning, maintenance and
disassembly only outside potentially explosive areas.
• Use only the approved solenoid valves.
6 Installation
• Follow the operating conditions and information in the
installation instructions for the solenoid valves.
• Connect the device to equipment of ignition protection
type [Ex ia] IIC or [Ex ib] IIC.
• Make sure that the connections and the tubing lines of the
solenoid valve are free of dirt particles or foreign matter.

1. Connect the plug socket with cable (see 4 ).
To do this, mount the cable connector with sealing ring and
washer to the housing.
2. Plug the socket into the housing.
3. Place the seal onto the plug.
4. Plug in the device socket 5and tighten the fastening
screw 6.

Warning
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The discharge of electrostatically charged parts can lead
to sparks which can cause an explosion.
• Prevent electrostatic discharges by means of suitable
installation and cleaning measures.
• Include the device in the system’s potential equalisa-
tion.
• Include the drive in the potential equalisation. The
mounting screws ensure there is an electrically conduc-
tive contact between basic valve and drive.
• Prevent all charge-producing processes that are stron-
ger than manual rubbing of surfaces.
Note

Air flowing out can swirl up dust and create a potentially
explosive atmosphere.
• Remove the exhaust air from the potentially explosive
atmosphere via tubing lines (see 1 in Fig. 1).
• Observe the specifications on the type plate.
• Do not commission the solenoid coil until it has been fit-
ted

Note
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
• Plan the size of the intrinsically safe current circuit ta-
king into account the maximum permissible electrical
values (Technical specifications).
• Always suction the operating medium outside the poten-
tially explosive area.
8 Operation
• Observe the operating conditions.
• Always observe the maximum permitted limits.
Warning
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hot surfaces can cause injury.
The temperature on the surface of the solenoid coil hou-
sing can amount to 80°C.
• Do not touch the housing.
• Prevent unintended actuation through suitable measures.
• Protect the device against fluids and corrosive media.
• Protect the device against twisting and bending.
To avoid short circuits and interruptions:
• Prevent kinking of connecting cables and stranded wires.
9 Disassembly
1. Ensure that all components which are pressurized by the
valve have assumed a position which is also stable after
venting.
2. Vent the line to which the valve is connected.
3. Switch off the power supply.
4. Undo the fastening screw 6 on the appliance socket and
pull off the appliance socket 5.
5. Loosen the plug socket with cable.
