The Emergency Stop button is standard; the other controls are
optional.

Control panel

4

Clamp and unclamp the hydraulically controlled grips during specimen
installation and removal. Also provide a pressure adjustment to control

Grip controls

grip clamping force and a rate adjustment that controls how fast the
grips secure the specimen.

Controls the crosshead lifts to raise and lower the crosshead
hydraulically.

Crosshead lifts control

Controls the crosshead locks to lock and unlock the crosshead
hydraulically.

Crosshead locks control

Controls actuator rod speed. There are two positions: one for reduced
speed of the actuator rod for specimen installation and one for normal,
high-speed testing operation.

Actuator velocity limiting switch

Removes hydraulic pressure from the load unit and issues an interlock
signal to the controller to stop the test program.

Emergency Stop

The handset has an encoder and buttons to help you during specimen
installation and test execution. The handset also has an alphanumeric
display and LEDs to provide feedback.

Handset

Controls both the flow rate and the direction of fluid entering the
actuators. It determines how fast the actuator extends or retracts.

Servovalve

5

Reduce transmission of vibrations. Fabcell® pads dampen the natural
frequency to about 20 Hz. Optional pneumatic/elastomeric isolators
dampen the natural frequency to about 2 Hz.

Isolation pads

6

Store hydraulic fluid under pressure to modulate the actuator
response time during periods of hydraulic pressure fluctuations. One

Accumulators

7

accumulator connects to the pressure line; the other to the return
line.

Measures the displacement of the actuator’s travel. The linear variable
displacement transducer (LVDT) is located inside the actuator.

LVDT

8

Serves as the junction point between the hydraulic power unit (HPU),
accumulators, servovalve, and actuator. The actuator manifold
controls the hydraulic circuit that connects the hydraulic components.

Manifold

9

The 10-micron inlet filter prevents passage of dirt particles into the
servovalve(s).

Filter

10

Applies axial forces to specimens. The actuator is a hydraulically
powered device that provides linear displacement of (or forces into)
a specimen. Grips and fixtures can be mounted to the actuator.

Linear actuator

11

Measures the axial forces applied to the specimen.
