Field Operation

1.

Hitch drill to a suitable tractor (page 14).
Check depth and level (page 14).

2.

Fully raise drill (page 18).

3.

Rotate ground drive wheel. Check that feed cups,
seed tubes and drives are working properly and free
from foreign material.

4.

Swing cylinder transport locks out (page 18).
Lower drill.

5.

Load materials (page 22).

6.

Set initial seed population from Seed Rate manual.

7.

Rotate ground drive wheel(s) to fill cups. Check for
flow at opener tubes.

8.

Calibrate material rates (page 33).

9.

Record initial acremeter reading (page 25).

10. Pull forward, lower drill, set lift circuit to Neutral, and

begin seeding.

11. When turning at row ends and for other short-radius

turns, always raise drill. Seeding automatically stops
when ground drive wheel loses contact.

Never back up with openers in the ground. Opener plugging is
likely. Severe damage is possible.

Parking

Perform the following if parking for 36 hours or less.
Refer to “Storage” to prepare for longer-term storage.

1.

Position drill on a level, solid area.

Block tires.
Parking jack is not a suitable parking anchor.

2.

Fully raise drill (page 18) and engage lock channels.

3.

Set lift circuit to Float, to settle cylinders on locks and
depressurize hydraulic lines.

4.

Mount parking jack on side of tongue. Raise hitch off
tractor drawbar or pintle claw.

5.

Disconnect lighting harness and hydraulic lines.

6.

Unhitch tractor.

Storage

Store drill where children do not play.

1.

Hitch tractor (page 14).

2.

Unload seed and fertilizer boxes (page 42).

3.

Thoroughly clean seed, seed-treatment residue and
fertilizer residue from boxes and feeder cups.

4.

Position drill on a level, solid area. If possible, store
the drill inside or under a tarp for longer life.

Block tires.
Parking jack is not a suitable parking anchor.

5.

Fully raise drill (page 18) and engage lock channels.

6.

Set lift circuit to Float, to settle cylinders on locks and
depressurize hydraulic lines.

7.

Mount parking jack on side of tongue. Raise hitch off
tractor drawbar or pintle claw.

8.

Disconnect lighting harness and hydraulic lines.

9.

Unhitch tractor.

10. Remove any dirt and debris that can hold moisture

and cause corrosion.

11. Disconnect seed hoses from openers.

12. Cap or plug seed tubes to prevent pest entry.

13. Lubricate and adjust all roller chains.

14. Take special care to oil feed cup drive sprocket in its

square bore.

15. Lubricate areas per “Lubrication” on page 47.

16. Grease exposed cylinder rods to prevent rust. Be

sure to remove grease at next use, to prevent dam-
age to cylinder seals.

17. Inspect drill for worn or damaged parts. Make repairs

and service during the off season.

18. Use spray paint to cover scratches, chips and worn

areas on the drill to protect the metal.

19. Cover with a tarp if stored outside.

You may be severely injured or killed by being crushed
between the tractor and drill. Do not stand or place any part of
your body between drill and moving tractor. Stop tractor
engine and set park brake before installing pins.
