The Dell Installation and Server Management or Dell Server Assistant CD provides significant enhancements that streamline the installation of the Operating
System on the PowerEdge Server. The Dell Installation and Server Management or Dell Server Assistant CD ships with every Dell PowerEdge Server. This proven
set of tools and documentation greatly enhances the customer's out-of-box experience by providing an easy to follow step-by-step setup and operating
system installation process.

 

Perform the following steps to install the driver while you are installing the operating system with the Dell Installation and Server Management or Dell Server
Assistant
CD.

1.

 

Power the system down.

2.

 

Power the system on.

3.

 

During boot up, the PERC BIOS banner should display. If it does not, power the system down and refer to

Troubleshooting

.

4.

 

Configure the logical drives. For more information on setting up logical drives, refer to

RAID Configuration and Management

.

 

5.

 

Insert the Dell Installation and Server Management or Dell Server Assistant CD in the CD drive and restart the server.

6.

 

Select the language that you want to use when prompted.

7.

 

Read and accept the software license agreement to continue.

8.

 

Select Click here for Server Setup on the Systems Management main page.

9.

 

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete setting up the operating system.

10.

 

Systems Management detects the devices on your system and then automatically installs drivers for all of those devices, including your RAID controller.

11.

 

When prompted, insert the operating system CD and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. Refer to the operating system

documentation for more information on completing the operating system installation.

 

Installing Windows 2000 or 2003 Using the Microsoft Operating System CD with
Driver Diskette

 

Creating a Driver Diskette

 

A driver diskette can be created through one of the following two methods:

l

 

Obtain the driver from the Dell OpenManage Systems Management CD or Support CD

l

 

Obtain the latest drivers from Dell Support located at:

http://support.dell.com

.

 

To create a driver diskette using the Dell OpenManage Systems Management CD or Support CD, perform the following steps:

1.

 

Insert the Dell OpenManage Systems Management CD or Support CD, into a running systems CD drive, and insert a diskette into the diskette drive.

2.

 

After the CD autoruns, click Copy Drivers.

3.

 

Select a server from the Select Server drop-down menu, then select the operating system under Select Drivers/Utilities Set.

4.

 

Click Continue.

5.

 

On the Utilities and Drivers page, scroll to the box for the operating system for the server and click the driver for your type of RAID controller.

6.

 

Follow the instructions on the screen and unzip the file to the diskette.

 

To create a driver diskette using the Dell support site, perform the following steps:

1.

 

Browse to the download section for the server at:

http://support.dell.com

.

2.

 

Locate and download the latest RAID driver to the system. The driver should be labeled as packaged for a diskette on the support site.

3.

 

Follow the instructions on the support site for extracting the driver to the diskette.

 

Installing the Driver during Operating System Installation

1.

 

Boot the system using the Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003 CD.

2.

 

When the message Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver appears, press the <F6> key immediately.

NOTE:

If this controller is not your primary controller, you can skip to Step 6 and configure the logical drives using Dell OpenManage Array Manager

or Dell OpenManage Storage Management (if provided) once the operating system is installed.
