38 SPLIT KEY

SPLIT KEY

Puts all the odd bytes in the top half of memory
and all the even bytes in the bottom half. Split
moves all 64K, (except location 0000 and
location FFFF!)

Using the and keys you can also elect to
SPLIT 128k 256k or 512k bytes.
When a microsystem has a bus which is 16
bits or 32 bits wide, then it will address more
than one PROM in parallel. But the assembler
produces the code in serial fashion, with high
bytes and low bytes alternating. It is possible
that S4 will receive serial code and must put
every other byte in a different PROM. Splitting
the code moves the bytes to a contiguous
block of memory which may be burned directly
into a PROM.
