Note:
Do not mix Syntac Primer and Syntac Adhesive.
Apply the products sequentially!
1. A dry operating field must be ensured. Ideally, a rubber

dam or the user-friendly OptraDam

®

Plus should be used.

2. In very deep cavities, areas close to the pulp should be

selectively coated with a calcium hydroxide liner (e.g.
ApexCal) and subsequently covered with pressure-resis-
tant cement (glass ionomer cement, e.g. Vivaglass Liner).

3. Apply phosphoric acid gel (e.g. Total Etch) first to the

prepared enamel and then to the dentin surfaces. The
etchant should be left to react on the enamel for 15 to
30 seconds, and on the dentin for 10 to 15 seconds.
Dentin etching is an optional working step and is not
required for Syntac. Following this, remove all etchant
gel with a vigorous water spray for at least 5 seconds.
Excess moisture should be removed leaving the dentin
surface with a slightly glossy wet appearance (wet
bonding).
Excess moisture should be removed with either air
syringe, a dry brush, a foam pellet or other lint-free
absorbents.
Do not overdry the dentin!

4. Apply Syntac Primer with the brush on the cavity and

gently rub in. Syntac Primer requires a contact time of at
least 15 seconds on the dentin.

5. Disperse excess Syntac Primer and dry thoroughly.

Do not rinse.

6. Apply Syntac Adhesive, leave it for 10 seconds and thor-

oughly dry the cavity with an air syringe. Do not rinse.

7. Apply Heliobond and blow to a thin layer.

Note:
At this point, Heliobond must be light-cured for direct
restorations. For the placement of indirect restorations,
Heliobond is polymerized together with the cementation
material.

8. Light-cure Heliobond for at least 10 seconds with a

polymerization light using a light intensity of at least
500 mW/cm

2

(e.g. bluephase in the LOP mode).

9. Apply the restorative (e.g. Tetric EvoCeram) or cementa-

tion material (e.g. Variolink II) according to the instruc-
tions of the manufacturer.

Special notes
A Syntac does not contain any polymerization initiators.

Therefore, the subsequent application of the light-curing
bonding agent Heliobond is mandatory.

B When cementing lab-fabricated inlays, crowns or

veneers with low-viscosity, light- or dual-curing luting
composites (e.g. Dual Cement or Variolink II), Heliobond
should not be light-cured separately. Heliobond should
be polymerized together with the luting composite (Dual
Cement or Variolink II) to assure the accurate fit of the
restoration.

C If self-curing composites are used, the light-curing bond-

ing agent Heliobond must be applied. The bonding
agent must be light-cured before the self-curing com-
posite is applied.

D The solvent contained in Syntac Primer (acetone) is

highly volatile. If this solvent evaporates, the monomer
separates at 23 °C/73 °F and a mean drop size after
about 60 seconds. Therefore, the primer should be dis-
pensed from the bottle immediately before application.
If several cavities are being restored, fresh primer should
be dispensed for each cavity. Do not use the primer after
the mentioned separation process has taken place.

Warnings
– Syntac Primer is an irritant and highly flammable.
– Heliobond is an irritant.
– Avoid contact of Syntac Primer, Syntac Adhesive or

Heliobond with skin, mucous membrane and eyes.
If the product comes in contact with the skin, rinse with
soap and water.

– If Syntac comes in contact with the eyes, immediately

rinse with copious amounts of water for at least
15 minutes and consult a physician/ophthalmologist.

– Syntac Adhesive contains glutaraldehyde and is detri-

mental to health if inhaled or swallowed.

– In rare cases, contact with skin may lead to a sensitiza-

tion to methacrylates and glutaraldehyde.

– Commercial medical gloves do not provide protection

against the sensitizing effect of methacrylates.
