Digital audio output terminals

These terminals output digital audio. Connect these terminals to
the corresponding terminals on the D/A converter (D-02, etc.).

Use commercially available cables for the following connections.

XLR: Use balanced XLR digital audio cables

RCA: Use an RCA coaxial digital cable (75 ohm. S/PDIF).

i.LINK (Audio S400): Use an S400-compatible 6-pin or
4-pin i.LINK cable (IEEE 1394 cable)

Set output settings for each connector that is used. (pages
22–23)

< If your D/A converter supports Dual AES, connect the XLR 1 (L)

terminal on this unit to the left XLR terminal of the D/A converter
and the XLR 2 (R) terminal on this unit to the right XLR terminal of
the D/A converter. If your DAC has only one XLR input, connect
XLR 1 (L) to the XLR input of your DAC. (See page 22 for setting
output of the P-02. The sampling frequency can be upconverted
2X or 4X.)

< The i.LINK (AUDIO) terminal is a bidirectional combined input and

output cable interface. You do not need to be concerned with
distinguishing between inputs and outputs.

< The i.LINK terminals are equipped with 6-pin and 4-pin

connectors. Use whichever fits the cable being connected.

When connecting multiple devices via i.LINK cable, use both

terminals. (Refer to page 26 regarding i.LINK cable connections.)

B

WORD SYNC input connectors

[WORD SYNC IN, 10MHz IN]

Used to input a synchronization signal (word clock).
To use WORD SYNC, connect the WORD SYNC output connector
(WORD SYNC OUT) of a D/A converter or master clock generator
to the WORD SYNC input connector (WORD SYNC IN).
When inputting a 10MHz oscillator signal, connect the oscillator
output to the 10MHz IN connector.

< Use the "WORD SYNC input connector" setting to select the

WORD SYNC connector (page 22)

< Use a commercially-available BNC coaxial digital cable to connect

them. (WORD SYNC IN: 75 Ω, 10MHz IN: 50 Ω)

C

Ground terminal (SIGNAL GND)

Using a ground connector to connect with a D/A converter, amp
or other equipment will improve the sound quality. Link each
chassis ground to the next chassis ground. Do not ground to a
wall plug or other external ground not part of a component.

< Note that this is not an electrical safety ground (earth).

D

Power cord connector

Connect the power cord to the power cord receptacle.
After all other connections are complete, connect the power
cord's plug to the AC wall socket.

Do not use any power cord other than the one included with

this unit or a power cord specified by ESOTERIC. Use of other
power cords may result in fire or electric shock.

Unplug the power cord when you are not going to use the

unit for several weeks.

At Esoteric, we use Esoteric MEXCEL stressfree cables for
