Adding Groups
A group combines users into a unit with common rules and permissions. To
create a group, choose
User/Group | Add Group
. The Add Group window
appears:
1. Enter a
group name
: maximum of 16 characters. The characters must be
alphanumeric, underscore (_), or a hyphen (-). The name cannot start with a
digit.
2. Enter a
group ID
or let NewsShare NAS assign a group ID. A Group ID is
required. Valid IDs are (500 through 65533). If the entered or assigned
number is already assigned to a local, NIS, or PDC group, the add command
fails. Use the User/Group List window to locate free IDs.
3. (Optional) To add a user to a group, from the list of available users on the
left, click on the
user name
, and click
Add
. This will be a secondary group
for the user. The list on the right shows the users currently in the group.
Repeat this step for each user you want in the group.
4. (Optional) To remove a user, click on the
user name
in the list on the right.
Click
Remove
. Repeat this step for each user you do not want in the group.
5. Click
Save
.
