The Snap controls on these menus are identical with the exception of a minor language
difference. “Grid Setting” in the Options menu is equivalent to “Snap Grid” in the Time
Bar pop-up menu. Snap Grid in the Time Bar is not the same as “Snap to Grid” in either
menu.

The Snap controls are found under the Options pull-down menu or from a menu that pops
up when right-clicking on the time bar. In either menu you can turn snapping on or off by
selecting Enable Snapping. If Snap is already on, then the Enable Snapping menu
item will be check-marked. Selecting the checked Enable Snapping will turn snapping
off. If you have the GUI Tools panel open (instead of the Meters) you can quickly get to the
Enable Snapping function by using the SNAP button in the Drag/Edit section. The SNAP
button will be lighted if Snap is already enabled. Click to toggle.

NOTE: Enable Snapping (or SNAP) is the on/off switch. If you want
to use snapping, you must select this. It is not sufficient to only select
Snap to Cues and/or Snap to Grid from one of the menus, as these
options only add snap points to the core Snap functionality. If snapping is
enabled by itself, with Snap to Cues and Snap to Grid turned off, a
dragged region will still snap to the Current Time bar or to the edge of any
adjacent region.

Snap to Grid
The Snap to Grid option is a very powerful way to
work, particularly if you are dropping music phrases on
the beat. Even if your musical phrase or effect isn't
exactly one measure long, you can still loop it by just
starting it on the measure boundary repeatedly. When
you drag a region with the mouse, it will move
smoothly except when the edge of the region passes
over a time point on the grid. At such points it will
stick briefly and you’ll know you’re in line with the
grid and can release. There will not be a visible grid
line on the Track display, but you'll see the
corresponding Ruler Mark in the Time bar.

The resolution of the grid is set from the Grid
Settings submenu.

Options | Grid Settings | choices

You will find time code increments (minutes, seconds,
frames) as well as musical increments (bar, quarter
note, eighth note, etc.) among the resolution choices.
Obviously it is best to use grid resolutions that match
