You cannot use migration volumes, destination volumes, or reserved volumes of XP Auto LUN for
XP Business Copy pair operations (the command will be rejected). To use XP Auto LUN volumes
for XP Business Copy pair operations, you must release the volumes by using XP Auto LUN.
HP StorageWorks XP External Storage Software
XP Business Copy operations can also be performed in conjunction with XP External Storage
operations to create pairs with the external volumes. For information about the external volumes,
see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 External Storage Software User Guide.
XP Continuous Access
XP Continuous Access volumes can be assigned to XP Business Copy pairs and vice versa.
XP Business Copy and XP Continuous Access can function together in the same storage system to
provide both internal and remote backup for your important data.
CAUTION: When performing the Quick Restore pairresync operation on the XP Business Copy
pair that shares the volume with HP StorageWorks XP Continuous Access Asynchronous Software,
XP Business Copy P-VOL and S-VOL must be allocated to the same CLPR. Specify the Reverse Copy
mode instead of the Quick Restore mode when resynchronizing the XP Business Copy pair whose
P-VOL and S-VOL are allocated to the different CLPR.

XP Business Copy is recommended for intra-storage system copy operations. If XP Business
Copy is not installed, XP Continuous Access (synchronous only) can be used to copy within
the same storage system. This XP Continuous Access configuration requires at least one external
ESCON cable loop (minimum of two is recommended).

Combination of XP Business Copy L1 and L2 pairs with XP Continuous Access volumes is
allowed. Node volumes and leaf volumes are both considered S-VOLs by XP Continuous
Access.
The configuration shown in Figure 10 (page 28) is an example of a volume that is functioning as
both an XP Continuous Access P-VOL and an XP Business Copy P-VOL. This configuration allows:

On-site backup copies of XP Continuous Access P-VOLs
•
Remote backup copies of XP Business Copy P-VOLs
