The volumes that will be P-VOLs will remain fully accessible to all hosts throughout normal XP
Business Copy operations, however, the volumes that will be S-VOLs will need to be unmounted
before being reserved for XP Business Copy operations.
Requirements for Maintaining XP Business Copy
This section describes the requirements for maintenance related to XP Business Copy. Note that in
some cases you need to re-create XP Business Copy pairs after the storage system maintenance or
microcode updates. Also note that if the XP Business Copy operations are not complete because
of failures, the copying process will be automatically suspended.
Cautions on Maintaining the Devices

Maintenance of PDEV
The maintenance of a PDEV that is not used by XP Business Copy, does not affect the XP
Business Copy operations and the status of XP Business Copy pairs. Even if a PDEV contains
LDEVs used by XP Business Copy, you can maintain that PDEV independently of the XP Business
Copy operations or XP Business Copy pair status. However, if a PDEV failure occurs, even
though the XP Business Copy pair status is kept the same as before the failure, there will be
fear such as degradation of copy pace.
If a failure occurs that requires the storage system to utilize dynamic sparing or automatic
correction copy, the status of the paired volumes associated with the failed PDEV will not be
affected.

Maintenance of LDEV
If an LDEV failure occurs, the storage system suspends the pair. ◦
