Cooling fan

There are two kinds of cooling fans provided in the server: one is
the intake fan in the front part and the second is the exhaust fan in
the rear part. Additional installation of the intake fan and exhaust
fan makes a redundant fan configuration.

Installing the cooling
fan

Before starting the job to install a cooling fan, carefully read
“Before starting operation” on page 57, and proceed to the job
according to the following procedure:

1 If the server is on, shut it down and turn off the power.

2 Unplug all the power cables from the AC outlets.

NOTE: If the cooling fan is installed when the server is turned
on, the server or fan may be damaged.

3 Remove the panels from the server.

See “Removing and replacing the server panels” on page 25.

4 If expansion cards have been installed, remove them according

to the procedure.

See the steps 4 and 5 in “Installing the expansion card” on page
132.

5 Follow the steps 6 through 7 to install a redundant intake fan

module or steps 8 through 10 to install a redundant exhaust fan
module.

The standard intake fan module and the standard exhaust fan
module must always be in the server during operation.
