Calibration is checked using a mineral oil viscosity standard with a three step test in CSS (controlled
shear stress) mode at torque values of 250‰, 500‰ and 750‰ (12.5 mNm, 25.0 mNm and 37.5
mNm respectively). The viscosity over all three steps is averaged and the average should be ±3%
of the viscosity standard value.

Example: A viscosity standard of 1.059 Pa*s should give an average viscosity between 1.02723
Pa•s and 1.09077 Pa•s.

The test program, shown in Figure B-1, shows the three blocks of the program. Block 4 is the
basic analysis that calculates the average viscosity and Block 5 is the fi nal calibration report
which may be printed.

Note that, in all cases, the shear rate for each stop of the test must be under 500 sec-1 to avoid
sample heating.
