Increasing Your Typing Speed

The abbreviated phrase function is provided to help you increase your typing speed
when you have to frequently type long strings of words (“phrases"). You can store the
phrases in the abbreviated phrase memory, along with a short abbreviation (the
“name” of the phrase). For instance, you can store the phrase “United States of
America” together with the name “USA”. Once this has been done, all you have to do
to enter “United States of America” in your document is to type “USA” and press
CODE

A (ABBR).
“USA” will automatically be replaced with “United States of
America”. If you type a name that does not exist in the abbreviated phrase memory,
and press
CODE
+
A (ABBR),
you will hear a beep.
The abbreviated phrase memory can store a maximum of 30 phrases and names.
Each phrase can consist of up to 67 characters, while a name is limited to 8
characters. The total amount of data in the abbreviated phrase memory may not
exceed 1,000 characters.
The abbreviated phrase memory can be saved on diskette and, of course, retrieved
from the diskette. You can create as many abbreviated phrase files as you want, but
you may have only one abbreviated phrase file on a diskette.
Understanding the Abbreviated Phrase Memory
The abbreviated phrase memory is stored in the word processor for as long as the
unit remains on. If you have created phrases and would like to use these phrases in
other files you will be creating later on, you will need to SAVE this phrase memory
onto a diskette. (See “Saving the Abbreviated Phrase Memory” on page 141.) Later,
when you want to use the phrases that are stored on a diskette, you can LOAD the
file into the memory of the unit. (See “Loading an Abbreviated Phrase File” on
page 141.)
NOTES:
• Each diskette can hold only one abbreviated phrase file. If you save an
abbreviated phrase memory onto a diskette that already contains an abbreviated
phrase file, that file will be overwritten by the new abbreviated phrase file.
• The memory of the word processor can hold only one abbreviated phrase
memory. If you create an abbreviated phrase memory, and then load an
abbreviated phrase file from a diskette, the abbreviated phrase memory will be
overwritten by the loaded file.
