Configuration Using the Web Interface

SNMP

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a protocol to
exchange management information between network devices. SNMP
is a member of the TCP/IP protocol suite. The ES8509-XT supports
SNMP v1 and v2c and v3.

An SNMP managed network consists of two main components: agents
and a manager. An agent is a management software module that
resides in a managed switch. An agent translates the local
management information from the managed device into a SNMP
compatible format. The manager is the console through the network.

The following web pages are included in this group:

Optionally, you can use the CLI for configuration, see

SNMP Configuration

Use this page to configure the SNMP v1/v2c Community. The community
string can be viewed as the password because SNMP v1/v2c does not
request you to enter a password before you try to access the SNMP agent.

The community includes two privileges:

Read Only privilege, you only have the ability to read the values of MIB
tables. The default community string is public.

Read and Write privilege, you have the ability to read and set the
values of MIB tables. The default community string is private.

The ES8509-XT allows you to assign four community strings. Type the
community string, select the privilege, and then click Apply.

Note: When you first install the device in your network, we recommend

that you change the community string. Most SNMP management applications use public and private as
the default community name, this could be a network security leak.
