When do I replace them?

Toner cartridges

The average yield of each toner cartridge is 6,500 pages.
The actual yield depends on the density of print on each
page and whether you have Toner Saver set On.

When the printer detects that the toner supply in a partic-
ular cartridge is getting low, it posts the

88

color

Toner Low

message. If you do not already have a replacement toner
cartridge available, order one at this time.

Press

Go

to clear the attendance message. The

Supplies

sta-

tus message then appears on the second line of the display
to remind you there are supplies that need attention. Open
the Supplies Menu to see which toner cartridge is low.

The printer also continues to display the

88

color

Toner Low

message each time you turn the printer on and each time
you open and close the top cover, until you replace the
toner cartridge or until it’s empty.

After recognizing the toner is low, the printer counts
250 pages and then displays

88

color

Toner Empty

. When

this message appears, you must install a new toner cartridge
before you can continue printing
.

Note:

When a

Toner Empty

messages appears on the dis-
play, you cannot use your printer
until you replace the toner car-
tridge.

If you notice a reduction in print quality after the

Toner

Low

message appears, you may want to replace the car-

tridge before the

Toner Empty

message is displayed. It is

also possible that the developer roll inside the toner car-
tridge needs replacing before you use all of the toner in
the cartridge. See “Identifying other problems” on
page 109 for information about printing pr
oblems that
may indicate it’s time to replace the toner cartridge.

When you need to install a new toner cartridge, refer to
the installation instructions that come with the new car-
tridge.
