Chapter 5: Paper handling

Envelopes

You can load up to 15 envelopes in the multipurpose
feeder. Load envelopes with the flap side down and the
short edge nearest the return address area positioned to
enter the printer first, as shown. Do not load stamped
envelopes. Refer to the Setup Guide for additional loading
instructions.

To ensure the best print quality, make sure you set the
Paper Type to Envelope and select the correct envelope
size before sending the job to print.

When printing on envelopes:

Try a sample of any envelopes you are considering
using with the printer before buying large quanti-
ties.

Use envelopes made from 90 to 105 g/m

2

(24 to

28 lb) bond paper. For best performance and fewer
paper jams, do not use envelopes that:

Have excessive curl

Are stuck together

Are damaged in any way

Contain windows, holes, perforations, cutouts,
or embossing

Use metal clasps or string ties

Have postage stamps attached

Have any exposed adhesive when the flap is in
the sealed or closed position

Use envelopes that can withstand temperatures of
195°C (383°F) without sealing, excessive curling,
wrinkling, or releasing hazardous emissions.

Adjust the left and right paper guides to fit the
width of the envelopes.

To minimize curl, use the rear output bin so the
envelopes feed straight out the back of the printer.
