Status reporting, data currency

The following table explains whose pair status is reported under different combinations of shared
volumes.

Continuous Access Synchronous Z pair status is reported to the host if you query the Continuous
Access Synchronous Z M-VOL or R-VOL. To obtain the Business Copy Z pair status, query the
Business Copy Z S-VOL pair.

Business Copy Z supports multiple R-VOLs for each of its S-VOLs, but when you issue a pair
status query, the status is returned only for the pair whose R-VOL has the lowest LDEV ID. To
check pair status for the other R-VOLs, direct a host query to the specific R-VOL using the
R-VOL’s LDEV ID in the host command.

Remote Web Console displays the status of all R-VOLs associated with a Business Copy Z
M-VOL.

Virtual LVI/LUN

Virtual LVI/LUN volumes can be assigned to Continuous Access Synchronous Z pairs, with the
following restrictions:

The R-VOL must have the same capacity than the M-VOL.

When performing Virtual LVI/LUN operations on an existing Continuous Access Synchronous
Z M-VOL or R-VOL, you must release the pair first to return the volume to Simplex status.

For further information on Virtual LVI/LUN, see the HP P9000 Provisioning for Mainframe Systems
User Guide
