Cache Residency

Cache Residency volumes that can be assigned to Continuous Access Synchronous Z pairs, and
Cache Residency operations can be performed on Continuous Access Synchronous Z M-VOLs and
R-VOLs. For more information, see the HP P9000 Cache Manager User Guide.

Compatible XRC and CC

P9500 is functionally compatible with the IBM Extended Remote Copy (XRC) function and IBM
2105, and 2107 Concurrent Copy function. For more information on XRC and/or CC, see the
applicable IBM documentation.

Auto LUN

Continuous Access Synchronous Z volumes in certain pair statuses may be used as Auto LUN
volumes, as explained in the following table.

Table 23 When Continuous Access Synchronous Z volumes can be used as VM volumes

Used as Auto LUN volume?

Volume/Pair status

No

M-VOL/R-VOL in Pending Duplex status

Yes

M-VOL/R-VOL in Duplexstatus

Yes

M-VOL/R-VOL in Suspended -R-VOL by operator status

Restrictions

The restrictions below must be followed when a Continuous Access Synchronous Z volume in Duplex
status is used as an Auto LUN volume.

Set I/O rates less than 50 IOPS while migrating volumes; if more than 50 IOPS, volumes may
not be migrated.

If a data path failure occurs, remove the failure then migrate the volume.

If an external volume or a V-VOL is used, information from before the volume is migrated is
displayed o the remote system Remote Web Console window. If the Auto LUN is completed
and the Continuous Access Synchronous Z pair is suspended and resynchronized, the volume’s
information is updated.

Do not migrate M-VOL and R-VOL at the same time; otherwise a host I/O timeout occurs.

Do not change the status of a volume during migration; the status may not change.
