NOTE:

When you release a pair from the remote system, remember that the R-VOL and M-VOL

are identical (for example, same volume label). Make sure to take appropriate precautions to
prevent a system problem due to duplicate volumes.

Procedure 8 To delete a pair

1.

On the menu bar, click Actions > Remote Copy > Continuous Access Synchronous for Mainframe
> Pair Operation. The Pair Operation window opens.

2.

Change to Modify mode by clicking the

icon.

3.

In the tree, select CU or the CU grouping where the pair is located.

4.

In the list, select the pair volume that you want to want to release, right-click, and select Delete
Pairfrom the menu. The Delete Pair dialog box displays.

5.

From the Deleting Mode list, select one of the following:

Normal: Deletes the pair or pairs only if the MCU can change the pair status of the M-VOL
and R-VOL to Simplex.

All: Releases all Continuous Access Synchronous Z pairs with the same MCU and RCU
(the same CU) as the selected pair. You can select this option from either the MCU or
RCU.

Force: Forcibly deletes the pair or pairs, even when the main system is unable to
communicate with the remote system. Specifying Force allows host operations to continue.

NOTE:

When the pair(s) selected for release have a status of either Simplex, the default

setting is Force (and therefore it cannot be changed). Otherwise, the default setting is Normal.

6.

Click Set then Apply.

If the operation does not start normally, an error code displays in the Error Code column in
the Preview list. To display an error message, select the LDEV, right-click, and select Error
Detail.

7.

Verify that operation completed successfully and that pair status is Simplex or Deleting on the
Pair Operation window. You can update the progress of the operation by clicking File/Refresh.

Change fence level, other pair options

You can change a pair’s fence level, which is an option that establishes whether or not the system
rejects write operations to the M-VOL under certain failure circumstances.
