Recovering from failures in the primary site and the Continuous Access Synchronous
Z secondary site

If a disaster or failure occurs in both the primary site and the Continuous Access Synchronous Z
secondary site in a 3DC multi target configuration, you can resume your business tasks by using
the secondary volume in the Continuous Access Journal Z secondary site. After you transfer business
tasks to the Continuous Access Journal Z secondary site, remove failures from the primary site and
the Continuous Access Synchronous Z secondary site, so that you will be able to transfer business
tasks back to the primary site.

To transfer your business tasks to the Continuous Access Journal Z secondary site, follow the
procedure below. Business Continuity Manager is used in this procedure:
1.

Use Business Continuity Manager to execute the YKSUSPND REVERSE command (a command
for splitting a pair and stopping the copy operation temporarily) on the journal corresponding
to the Continuous Access Journal Z pair, which extends between the primary site and the
Continuous Access Journal Z secondary site.

2.

Use volumes in the Continuous Access Journal Z primary site to resume your business tasks.

Transferring business tasks from the Continuous Access Journal Z secondary to the primary
Site

If you follow the instructions in the previous section and then remove failures from the primary site
and the Continuous Access Synchronous Z secondary site, you can transfer your business tasks
back to the primary site.

To transfer your business tasks back to the primary site, follow the procedure below. Business
Continuity Manager is used in this procedure:
1.

Use Business Continuity Manager to execute the YKDELETE command (a command for releasing
a pair) on the Continuous Access Synchronous Z pair.

2.

Reverse the copy direction of the Continuous Access Journal Z pair. To do this, use the Business
Continuity Manager to execute the YKRESYNC REVERSE command (a command for re
establishing a pair) on the journal corresponding to the Continuous Access Journal Z pair.

As a result, the former secondary volume in the Continuous Access Journal Z secondary site
changes to the P-VOL. Also, the former primary volume in the primary site changes to the
S-VOL.

3.

Stop business tasks at the Continuous Access Journal Z secondary site.

4.

Use Business Continuity Manager to execute the YKSUSPND FORWARD command (a command
for splitting a pair and stopping the copy operation temporarily) on the Continuous Access
Journal Z pair.

5.

Use the primary volume in the primary site to resume your business tasks.

6.

Use Business Continuity Manager to execute the YKRESYNC FORWARD command on the
Continuous Access Journal Z pair, so that the copy direction of the pair is returned to its original
direction.
