Check pair status for shared volumes as follows:

For Continuous Access Journal Z, check status of the primary volume or secondary volume.

For Business Copy Z, check status of the primary volume.

Remote Web Console shows the port, GID, LUN, LDEV ID and Business Copy Z pair status of all
secondary volumes associated with a primary volume.
Business Copy Z supports multiple secondary volumes for each primary volume. When you check
pair status, the system returns status for only one pair—the pair whose secondary volume has the
lowest LDEV ID. To see status for the pairs with a different secondary volume, direct a host query
to the specific secondary volume using the secondary volume’s LDEV ID in the host command.

Using At-Time Split function when combining Continuous Access Journal
Z with Business Copy Z

When Continuous Access Journal Z secondary data volume (S-VOL) is specified as S-VOL of Business
Copy Z pair, you can specify the time of backup copy operation for Continuous Access Journal Z
by using the At-Time Split function of the Business Continuity Manager. This backup copy operation
is called the split operation. The time when split operation is executed is called the split time.

The At-Time Split function has the following restrictions when Continuous Access Journal Z and
Business Copy Z are used in conjunction:

The At-Time Split function can be executed by Business Continuity Manager, but cannot be
executed by Remote Web Console.

You can execute split operations on Business Copy Z pairs that belong to Business Copy Z
consistency groups.

You can apply one split operation to one Business Copy Z consistency group.

If you configure the split operation, you can select one of two split types (i.e., Quick Split and
Steady Split functions) of the Business Copy Z pair. For details about split types, see HP
StorageWorks P9000 Business Copy for Mainframe Systems User Guide
.

You can apply up to three split operations to one journal (equivalent to three Business Copy
Z consistency groups).

One Business Copy Z S-VOL can be paired with up to three Business Copy Z T-VOLs. This
enables you to create a maximum of three generations of backup data.

The procedure to use the At-Time Split function when you combine Continuous Access Journal Z
with Business Copy Z is as follows. This procedure enables you to make a backup copy at a
specified time without suspending Continuous Access Journal Z pairs.
1.

Specify the split time by using Business Continuity Manager.
