DECODED DATA

The Decoded Data, Figure 4-4, displays the decoded data from all three tracks, if present. The
status indicator will be green if there are no problems with the decoded data for that track. If any
problem were detected with the decoded data, the indicator will be red. The drop down list next
to the status indicator will display a list of the condition of the decoded data.

The top item will be the encoding format. There are four different encoding types that may be
listed. ISO7 and ISO5 are the standard encoding methods specified in the ISO specification, 7 bit
for track 1, and 5 bit for tracks 2 and 3. The InSpec software will decode either of these formats
on any of the three tracks.

JIS2 is displayed when Japanese Industrial Standard Type 2 encoding is detected. JIS2 is a wide
track encoding, and will be displayed as track 2. JIS Type 1 is very similar to standard ISO
encoding, and will be identified as ISO7 and ISO5.

Parity and LRC will be checked, and displayed as ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’. For more information on
parity or LRC, see appendix A Magnetic Encoding.
