If the packet’s destination MAC address is in the MAC address
table, but the port where the address was learned is not one of the
VLAN’s egress ports, the switch discards the packet.
VLANs that Span
Switches
To create a MAC address-based VLAN that spans switches, you must
replicate the MAC addresses of the VLAN nodes on all the switches where
the VLAN exists. The same MAC address-based VLAN on different
switches must have the same list of MAC addresses.
Figure 139 illustrates an example of a MAC address-based VLAN that
spans two AT-9000 Switches. The VLAN consists of three nodes on each
switch. Table 76 on page 776 lists the details of the VLAN on the switches.
Note that each VLAN contains the complete set of MAC addresses of all
VLAN nodes along with the appropriate egress ports on the switches.
