Replacing

a

cooling

fan

The

SMC

-

Storage

Array

has

ten

fans

in

its

cooling

cage

to

ensure

proper

cooling

of

the

system.

Each

cooling

fan

can

be

individually

replaced.

To

replace

a

cooling

fan,

do

the

following:

CAUTION:

The

enclosure

cover

should

only

be

removed

by

qualified

service

personnel

as

it

provides

access

to

a

service

area.

Potential

hazards

include:

v

Energy

hazard

v

Rotating

fans

v

Hot

surfaces

v

Access

to

PSU

openings

Important:

After

completing

the

fan

replacement,

be

sure

the

enclosure

cover

is

properly

closed

and

securely

latched

by

turning

the

lock

mechanism

to

the

locked

position.:

1.

Observe

all

safety

and

ESD

precautions

in

the

Safety

and

Warranty

Guide.

2.

Release

the

enclosure

cover

by

using

a

flat-head

screwdriver

to

turn

the

lock

mechanism

to

the

“unlocked”

position

(see

1

in

the

following

figure).

Slide

the

cover

back

until

it

stops

(see

2 ).

3.

Remove

the

faulty

fan

by

carefully

lifting

it

up,

then

unplug

it

from

the

enclosure

management

PCB,

and

remove

it

from

the

enclosure.
