5.6 Finishing work
5.6.1 Daily routine steps
Remove all specimens from the cryo-
chamber and store safely! See also
corresponding safety instructions in
chapter 2.3.7 ‘Defrosting / handling fro-
zen tissue’!
• Lock handwheel.
• Remove knife from knife holder, disinfect,
dry (see chapter 7 ‘Disinfection, cleaning
and maintenance’) and store in the knife
case.
• Use a cold brush to sweep frozen sectioning
waste into the section waste tray.
• Empty section waste tray (dispose of sec-
tioning waste according to the applicable
regulations on disposal of special category
waste!).
• If necessary, carry out a complete disinfec-
tion procedure (see chapter 7 ‘Disinfection,
cleaning and maintenance’).
• Remove all specimens from the chamber
and store safely.
• Close sliding window.
• Switch off cryochamber illumination.
• Use lock/unlock key to lock display in con-
trol panel 1 (Display background dark =
locked):
5.6.2 Switching off the instrument for a
longer period of time
If you do not plan to use the instrument for an
extended period of time, it can be switched off.
However, since this involves a lot of work
(see below), it should be considered carefully
whether switching off the instrument is really
the better option.
If the instrument is switched off, the microtome
must be removed. Then the microtome, cryo-
chamber and all accessories must be disinfect-
ed and dried!
• For that purpose, follow the instructions in
chapters 7.1 through 7.5.3.

Do not switch off mains switch / auto-
matic cutout (see chapter 5.2 ‘Switch-
ing on / fuses’)!
