Using the Scanner

This section provides a list of things to check if you
are having problems scanning.

Note: Scanning problems are most often caused
by poor quality bar code symbols. If scanning
problems arise test your bar code system using the
high quality bar code test symbols supplied in
Appendix A.

Make sure the scanner is configured to read the
the type of bar codes you are trying to scan.

Check if the bar code symbol is worn or damaged.

Verify that you are holding the scanner at an angle.

Make sure the beam crosses every bar and space
on the symbol.

Check for loose cable connections.

Check that there is power to the scanner and the
host computer or terminal.

If you perform these checks and the symbol still does
not scan, contact your Allen-Bradley representative.
