Bleeding The
Marker Hydraulic System

1.

Make sure the tractor hydraulic reservoir is full.

2.

With the markers in field position, crack the hydraulic
hose fittings the base and rod ends of each marker
cylinder. With the tractor at idle speed, activate your
tractor hydraulic valve forward until oil seeps out
around one of the hose fittings. When oil begins to
seep out around a fitting, tighten that fitting. Reverse
the tractor hydraulic valve until oil appears at the op-
posite hose fitting and tighten that fitting. If you have
dual markers which are controlled by a sequence
valve, activate your tractor hydraulic valve forward
again until oil seeps out around one of the fittings on
the other marker cylinder and tighten that fitting. Re-
verse the tractor hydraulic valve until oil seeps out
around the remaining hose fitting and tighten it.

3.

Fold and unfold the markers slowly in order to work all
the air out of your marker hydraulics. Use caution
when folding and unfolding the markers for the first
time, and check for pinching and kinking of hoses.

!

CAUTION!

You may be injured if hit by a folding or unfolding marker.
Markers may fall quickly and unexpectedly if the hydraulics fail.
Never allow anyone near the drill when folding or unfolding the
markers.

!

WARNING!

Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing
serious injury. Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before
disconnecting hydraulic lines. Use a piece of paper or card-
board, NOT BODY PARTS, to check for suspected leaks. Wear
protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working
with hydraulic systems. If an accident occurs, see a doctor im-
mediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically re-
moved within a few hours or gangrene may result.

Dual Markers With Sequence
Valve Marker Speed Adjustment

Dual markers are equipped with a sequence valve to con-
trol marker lift sequence.

Starting with both marker up, the sequence is:

1.

Activate the remote hydraulic lever; right marker low-
ers while left marker stays up.

2.

Reverse the remote hydraulic lever; right marker rais-
es while left marker stays up.

3.

Activate the remote hydraulic lever again; left marker
lowers while right marker stays up.

4.

Reverse the remote hydraulic lever; left marker raises
while right marker stays up.

5.

The sequence repeats this same pattern.

Dual marker raise and lower speeds are adjusted with hex
adjustment screws on the body of the sequence valve as

shown in Figure 3-20. There are two adjustment screws,
one for raising (#1), and one for lowering (#2) the mark-
ers. The "Raise" and "Lower" adjustment screws are
identified by stamped markings in the valve body. Turn
the adjustment screws clockwise to slow the speed down
and counterclockwise to speed it up. Adjustments should
be made for safe operating speeds at the tractors oper-
ating RPM. Excessive folding speed could damage the
markers and may void the warranty. Be sure to tighten
the jam nuts on the hex adjustment screws to hold the
desired settings.
