Problem

Solution

Uneven seed spacing or
uneven stand

Check for plugging in feed cup.

Check to see if seed tubes are plugged.

Reduce ground speed.

Check opener disks to see they turn freely.

Use faster drive type speed and close feed cup flutes to a more narrow position.

Hydraulic pressure on openers set too low causing opener to not penetrate.

Check for trash or mud build-up on Seed-Lok Wheel.

Hydraulic pressure on openers set too high causing gauge wheels to loose con-
tact with ground

Opener disks not turning
freely

Check for trash or mud build-up on disk scraper. Readjust scraper.

Check to see if scraper is adjusted too tight and is restricting disk movement.

Check disk bearings.

Check opener frame for possible damage.

If opener disks turn freely by hand but not in field, lessen down pressure on
opener hydraulics.

Check press wheel adjustment for seeding depth.

Actual seeding rate is different
than desired

Check tire pressure. See “Tire Inflation Chart” on page 98.

Check wing gauge wheel size. Proper size is 265/70B 16.5 NHS skid steer.

Seed treatment will affect seeding rate if the chemicals build up in seed cup.
Unless cleaned regularly, this build-up can cause breakage of the feed shaft.

Check drill box setting.

Heavier or lighter than average seed weight being planted. See Operator’s Man-
ual for instructions on calculating seed rate.

Excessive seed cracking

Use slower drive speed and open flutes in feed cup to a wider position.

Position feed cup handles to a lower notch.

Acremeter doesn’t measure
accurately

Check tire pressure. See “Tire Inflation Chart” on page 98.

Check gauge wheel tire size: 9.5L-15 6 ply or 265/70B 16.5 NHS skid steer.

Check planting operation for excessive overlap or gaps between passes.

Loose soil conditions and slippage will cause variations in acres registered.

To check accuracy of acremeter, see “Main Box Seed Rate Calibration” in the
Seed Rate Manual.

Check to be sure your acremeter is for your drill.

Uneven seeding depth

See “Adjustments” on page 47.

See “Hitching” on page 15, and “Leveling the Drill” on page 74.

Press wheel not
compacting the soil as desired

Reset press wheel depth. See “Opener Depth (Press Wheel Height)” on
page 58.

Hydraulic down pressure on disk openers is not enough.
