Installing Symantec Backup Exec Software

NOTE: Starting with Symantec Backup Exec 2012, the Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance Powered by
Symantec Backup Exec is not factory installed from Dell. However, the DL Backup to Disk Appliance can be
upgraded to Backup Exec 2012 using the Dell PowerVault Recovery and Update Utility (RUU) 3.5.

The PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance Configuration Wizard launches the installer for the Symantec Backup
Exec software.

Entering License Keys For Versions Prior To Backup Exec 2012

Backup Exec license keys are required to enable the Backup Exec options installed on the DL Backup to Disk Appliance.

NOTE: For systems shipped with Backup Exec 12.5 or Backup Exec 2010, one or more licenses may be pre-installed.
When prompted to enter the license keys by Backup Exec, do not enter the pre-installed licenses.

Locate the Backup Exec license keys on the enclosed Dell Software License Key product card.

Enter the license key following one of the procedures below:

– Enter each license key in the Enter License Keys window that is displayed during the Backup Exec

installation.

– To add or modify licenses after installing Backup Exec, launch the Backup Exec console. In the Tools menu,

click Install Options and License Keys on this Media Server.

NOTE: You can add licenses or activate additional agents or options at any time after you configure the PowerVault
DL Backup to Disk Appliance Configuration Wizard. If the evaluation period expires for an agent or option, you
need to enter a license key to continue using it.

NOTE: To purchase additional license keys for agents and options, contact your Dell representative.

Entering License Keys For Version Backup Exec 2012 And Later

Backup Exec 2012 and later uses Symantec Enterprise Licensing System (ELS). Backup Exec licenses are required to
activate the Backup Exec options installed on the DL Backup to Disk Appliance. The licenses must be entered during the
RUU 3.5 prompt when you are upgrading Backup Exec 2010 or Backup Exec 12.5 to Backup Exec 2012. If not, the system
can be run in trial mode for up to 60 days. If you do not enter licensing information within 60 days of installation, the
product stops working.
You can add licenses or activate additional agents or options at any time after you update the PowerVault DL Backup to
Disk Appliance Configuration Wizard using RUU 3.5 or higher. If the evaluation period expires for an agent or option, you
need to enter a license to continue using it.

– Enter each license key in the RUU 3.5 window that is displayed during the Backup Exec upgrade.
– To add or modify licenses after installing Backup Exec, launch the Backup Exec console, click on the

Backup Exec button, select Installation and Licensing, and then Install Options and Licenses on this Backup

Exec Server.
