9. If this is the last task you are performing inside the chassis, replace the top
front cover.
4.4 Installing a Hardware RAID Module
Hard disk drives are not supported on the NSN2U server by default. One of two
separately-orderable controller options is required. Hardware RAID support requires a
SAS/SATA hardware RAID module, which is described in this section. If basic, non-RAID
support is all that your solution requires, then the SAS/SATA control module is
adequate. See Section 4.3, “Installing a Hardware RAID Module“, if basic support is
what you want.
Figure 31 shows the SAS/SATA hardware RAID module, which provides SAS/SATA RAID
functionality for the server using an LSI Logic LSISAS1078* hardware RAID controller
(“B”). The module’s interface to the baseboard is through a PCI Express bus flex
circuit cable (“A”) to the bridge board. The SAS/SATA hardware RAID module is located
in the front left of the chassis between the power supply system and the SAS/SATA
backplane board. The module’s gold edge connector (“C”) mates with the SAS/SATA
backplane board.

Before you can install the SAS/SATA hardware RAID module, you need to remove the
bracket for the 60mm PCI fans. The PCIe flex circuit cable that connects the SAS/SATA
hardware RAID module to the bridge board for baseboard connectivity goes under this
bracket. There is also a protective sheet metal cover that sits over the SAS/SATA
hardware RAID module and this has to come off also before the module can be installed.

2. Unscrew the large screw at the back of the sheet metal bracket that holds the
60mm PCI fan set. (Figure 30, “A”)
Slide the whole fan assembly up and backwards to disengage the front guide pins
from the chassis base. (“B”)
3. Rest the fan assembly on the front of the server. (You do not need to remove
the fans or unplug the power connector.)
4. If you are using an IBBU on the SAS/SATA hardware RAID module, install it now.
