Installing the New SAS/SATA Backplane Board

1. Install the backplane board on the mounting tabs at the bottom of the drive bay

assembly.

The HDD connectors should line up with four cutouts on the drive bay assembly top

rear edge.

2. Place the backplane retention bar over the backplane and the drive bay assembly.

a. Make sure the rectangular openings on the retention bar are pushed fully

against the raised tabs on the drive bay assembly. (Figure 56, “B”)

b. Make sure the top backplane board edges are engaged with all the retention

slots on the bar.

3. Secure the backplane retention bar to the drive bay assembly with the three screws

(Figure 56 “A”)

Re-attach the optical drive shelf and secure it with the two front panel

screws and the rear grommeted screw. (

5. Re-install the optical drive assembly or the filler panel and the top sheet metal

protective cover. For instructions, see Section 4.11, “Installing an Optical

Device”.

6. Re-install the SAS/SATA control module or SAS/SATA hardware RAID module, if used

and the sheet metal protective cover.

For instructions, see either Section 4.3, “Installing a SAS/SATA Control Module“ or

Section 4.4, “Installing a Hardware RAID Module”.

7. Reconnect all the cables that were previously attached to the old backplane board.
8. Re-attach the front panel bezel. For instructions, see “Re-Installing the Front

Bezel” in Section 3.2

9. If this is the last task you are performing inside the server chassis, replace both

chassis covers, reconnect the power cord(s), and reconnect any external devices.
