OVEREDGED SEAMS

Seams in knit and stretch fabrics can be
joined and finished in one operation when you

use the overedge stretch stitch.

Stitching Seam

Procedure

Make a test sample before beginning garment

construction to test machine settings. (See

page 23 for adjusting stitch balance.) Be sure

to duplicate the cut of the garment seam in
your test, and use a bail-point Yellow Band

needle if you are sewing a synthetic knit

fabric.

• Baste the garment together on the seam line

allowing for % inch seam allowance and fit

in usual way.

• After making any necessary adjustments,

trim seam edge evenly to a scant V4inch
from seam line basting.

• Place trimmed seam under the foot so that

the straight stitches fall on the basted seam

line and zig-zag stitches fall over the seam

edge.

fabrics, use the zig-zag foot In place of overedge foot to prevent

needle breakage.
