THE REVOLVING FIELD AC GENERATOR

Cleaning the Generator

Grease or caked-on dirt can be rem oved w ith a

saoft brush or a clean, dam p cloth. A vacuum system
m ay be used to rem ove loosened dirt. Loose dust and
dirt m ay aiso be blow n aw ay w ith clean, dry, low pres

sure air (25 psi m axim um ).

CAUTION: Do NOT use a forceful spray of water
to clean the generator. Some of the water will
be retained on generator windings.___________

Drying the Generator

To dry the generator, proceed as follow s;

1. Open the generator's m ain circuit breakers or the

m ain line sw itch. NO ELECTRICAL LOADS MUST BE
APPLIED W HILE THE GENERATOR IS DRYING.
2. Disconnect the voltage regulator.
3. Provide an external source of w arm , diy air. This air

m ust be draw n through the generator's air inlet, blow n
over the rotor and stator, and m ust then exit throuah
the cooling air outlet opening(s). DO NOT EXCEED

185' F. (85* C.).

4. Start the generator, let it run for about 2 to 3 hours.
5. Afterthe recom m ended drying tim e of 2-3 hours, shut

the engine dow n.
6. Retest the stator and rotor insulation for breakdow n.
