12 Typical Applications
For accurate, significant, and repeatable power measurements, it is
important to consider the following points:
³
Connectors, fiber ends, ports, and detectors should be clean at all
times.
³
A null measurement should be performed prior to each user session or
whenever there is a significant change in ambient temperature or
environmental conditions. To perform a null measurement, see Nulling
Offsets on page 38.
³
The optical source should be stable.
³
Appropriate test jumpers, connectors, and adapters must be used.
³
Once a reference has been taken, make sure that the setup remains
stable. To take a reference, see Measuring Relative Power on page 43.
³
Since optical losses vary according to the launch and receive
conditions and fiber type, controlling these conditions with mode
filters and strippers is essential.
