Measuring Insertion Loss
Measuring Insertion Loss
To accurately measure the insertion loss of a fiber-optic component, use a
light source (such as EXFO’s IQS-2100 Light Source) and your high-speed
power meter.
To measure the insertion loss:
1. Perform an offset nulling of the detector(s) if needed.
2. Make sure that the source is turned off.
3. Connect the source to the power meter using two appropriate test
jumpers and a bulkhead connector as shown below. This setup will be
used to record a reference value.
4. Adjust the source and power meter to the appropriate wavelength.
5. Activate the source and select a suitable power output.
